Anne-Claire Pungier

After practicing for twenty years in France as an architect and urban planner, Anne-claire chose to embrace an artistic career, as her own way of accepting and sharing her sensitivity and femininity. Her departure from France for the United Kingdom, then Canada, was an opportunity for her to reinvent herself, to reconnect with her younger self, to finally listen to her heart and to express the little spark of magic that she has always carried within her.
Attracted by delicacy, softness, fragility, refined elegance, light and transparency shows, her organic and abstract work explores the themes of energy, seasons, travel atmospheres, or dancing emotions, trying to embed fluidity of movement.
Paper as a noble, durable and delicate material, has always fascinated and inspired her. Medium of ancestral traditions and contemporary practices, it offers endless possibilities : writing and drawing, photography, folding and cutting, furniture and decoration, costumes, jewels… She had the opportunity to discover it through visiting exhibitions since her teens, immersed in the rich French cultural environment, but also to play with this material in all its forms during her architectural studies.
Combining her detailed drawings with this smart and flexible material made her develop a high precision technique, and find her own way to access a sensible and poetic part of the world, to offer it to the others.
Her technique is all about handcutting intricate patterns on a sheet of paper, with an Exacto knife. After drawing on the back of the sheet, she handcuts with delicacy piece after

Her technique is all about handcutting intricate patterns on a sheet of paper, with an Exacto knife. After drawing on the back of the sheet, she handcuts with delicacy piece after

piece with a very sharp blade, each part which will stay empty, removing only the voids and making the solids stand out.
These contemporary and innovative art pieces, spreading movement, vibrant colors and positive emotions, are framed in a special way (between two screens) to highlight the delicate work, adding depth and fine shadows.
This work, which requires calm, concentration and patience - sometimes for several consecutive hours - also joins her meditation practice, living the flow and brings her joy and fulfillment. Bringing to life a simple sheet of paper, seeing the magic happen and slowly transform the paper into a real and thin lace - is a constantly renewed wonder that fills her with gratitude.
She believes that Art is a matter of emotions, and connections between the purest part of souls. Accepting to be more vulnerable in showing who we truly are is a key to reach others and share the unique light we carry.
